Open Slack web links in a specific browser profile on Mac

Why give it its own rule

If you use Slack in the browser rather than the app, or keep a client workspace separate from your own, links to slack.com pages need the profile where that workspace is signed in. Otherwise a message link opens a sign-in page or the wrong workspace.

How to set it up

  1. Install ChooseBrowser and pick it in System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Default web browser.
  2. In ChooseBrowser, add a rule for the hosts below and choose the browser and profile (profiles of Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi and Chromium need a one-time local setup in the app).
  3. From then on, these links open straight in that browser from any app; links without a rule show the picker.

Hosts to add

  • app.slack.com
  • your-workspace.slack.com

Add a rule for your-workspace.slack.com that opens the profile signed in to that workspace, and one for app.slack.com that opens the profile you use for Slack on the web. For a second workspace, add its your-other-workspace.slack.com host as a rule to a different profile. Rules match where the link points, not which app you clicked it in.

Check that it works

Open a message link on your-workspace.slack.com and confirm the workspace loads without a sign-in page; then open a link to another workspace's host and confirm it goes to the other profile.
